FCA / CAF Gateway
How gateway access works.
From plug-in to unlocked active tests — the four steps behind FCA and Renault gateway authentication.
The Secure Gateway Module (SGW) sits between the diagnostic port and the vehicle bus. Without authentication a tool can only read basic data; write functions are blocked. Here is how iCarsoft gets you through it.
- Connect & identify — plug the iCarsoft tablet into the OBD-II port. The tool reads the VIN and detects that a gateway is present.
- Authenticate — the tablet opens a secure session with the gateway. On iCarsoft tools this is built in; there is no separate subscription dongle to buy.
- Unlock functions — once the session is established, bidirectional active tests, adaptations, coding and service resets become available.
- Work the job — run the procedure (bleeding, relearn, regen, registration), verify the result and clear codes.
Frequently asked
Do I need an internet connection?
A network connection is recommended so the tablet can validate the session and stay on the latest gateway protocols.
Is this legal / approved?
Gateway access on iCarsoft tools is performed through the vehicle's standard authentication path — the same secure handshake used by professional equipment.
Which iCarsoft tools include it?
The CR-series tablets (CR Ultra, CR Unicorn, CR Eagle, CR MAX and newer) include FCA / Renault gateway access. Compare tools →
